Between Father’s Day and the Juneteenth holiday, it has been an extremely busy weekend at Captain White’s Seafood, an iconic business in the D.C. region that is now located in Oxon Hill, Maryland.The business moved to Maryland last year, after being at D.C.’s Southwest Waterfront for about 50 years.Sonny White, who owns the company, said he was pleased to see that the new location was thriving over the holiday weekend.“After 50 years of good service and good crabs, we have a lot of customers,” said White.It was so busy Monday that White had to call in extra employees to help out.Dozens of people were in a line that stretched around the business, and when the line would shrink, more customers would pull into the parking lot.“This is the first time we’ve been open on Juneteenth,” said White. “We weren’t really expecting it to be as strong as it is.”Local customer Steven Benson was there Monday.“When I came and looked I was li...Exhibirán de forma permanente la Proclamación de Emancipación en el Museo Archivos Nacionales

A Florida deputy was hailed a “hero” after performing CPR on an unconscious truck driver in Orlando.“Keep breathin’, keep breathin’, keep breathin’, man. A man was transported to the hospital after possibly being struck by lightning at a park in Fort Lauderdale while attending the Juneteenth event.Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue responded to a call reporting a possible lightning strike involving an adult male at Mills Pond Park, located at 2201 NW 9th Ave, shortly after 3:40 p.m.Ujima Men’s Collective organized a cooking contest for the Juneteenth celebration where 100 people came to celebrate. SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico (AP) — Tropical Storm Bret formed in the central Atlantic Ocean on Monday, with forecasters saying it could pose a hurricane threat to the eastern Caribbean by Thursday and the Dominican Republic and Haiti by the weekend.The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Bret had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph (65 kph) at 5 p.m. Monday as it moved west across the Atlantic at 21 mph (33 kph). Forecasters expect it to strengthen over the next two days, reaching Category 1 hurricane strength of 74 mph (120 kph) by Wednesday night as it nears the Lesser Antilles.
