Speed is everything for patients: together we can bring medicines faster

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 13:09:54 GMT

Working in our industry brings huge responsibility. We deal with people’s lives, and our  medicines give people an opportunity to improve their health, often at the most overwhelming time for them. I had a strong reminder of that recently.Last month, I met with a colleague, Heiko, who lives in Germany. His young daughter has central nervous system (CNS) neuroblastoma — a type of cancer that tends to affect children under the age of five.Heiko and his family have been navigating the health system for months, including an overload of information in the form of complex ‘oncological-speak’, treatment guidelines and health insurance claims. They have also been dealing with constant travel to specialist centers — all while juggling the emotional burden of caring for a sick child and the daily challenges of home and work life.He shared something that stuck in my mind the night I spoke with him, which serves as an important reminder for all of us working in health care.“Trust must be b...

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 13:09:54 GMT

The Wisconsin Badgers were picked to finish near the bottom of the pack in the preseason Big Ten Women’s basketball poll, but that does not mean the Badgers are devoid of talent. In their 78-55 win over St. Thomas on Wednesday at Schoenecker Arena, St. Thomas coach Ruth Sinn saw a few players dressed in red who she certainly could put on her wish list this holiday season.A physical, 6-foot-4 center who impacts both ends of the floor? The Badgers have one in sophomore Serah Williams, who finished with 21 points and 14 rebounds — including nine on the offensive glass.A veteran 6-foot guard who plays tough defense, can nail the 3-point shot and drive the basket? The Badgers have one in senior Brooke Schramek, who had 15 points and was 3 of 4 from 3.Finally, how about a precocious guard who has the looks of a star in the making? D’Yanis Jimenez, who fits that bill for the Badgers, dazzled at times with 20 points. The teams met last December in Madison, with the Badgers coming out on top, ...
