‘Peter Pan & Wendy’ lacks enough magic to truly take flight (CNN) — “Peter Pan & Wendy” wants to conjure magic but turns out to be low on fairy dust, yielding a dreary live-action adaptation of the 1953 movie that transforms Neverland into what vaguely feels like a discount version of Pandora. Modest narrative upgrades help lift the Disney+ film above the service’s recent “Pinocchio,” but clearing that very low bar amounts to damnation with faint praise. There have been numerous live-action renderings of J.M. Barrie’s classic, from “Hook” to “Peter Pan” to simply “Pan” — plus “Finding Neverland,” which cast Johnny Depp as Barrie in a touching look at the play’s origins.Other than a few welcome and necessary changes to rid the Disney animated film of more problematic elements, and a bit more backstory explaining this Captain Hook (Jude Law) and his semi-depressed demeanor, this version pretty closely adheres to the basic blueprint, ponderi...

ASK IRA: Did Bam Adebayo provide needed answers with his triple-double?

Published Thu, 21 Nov 2024 21:37:03 GMT

ASK IRA: Did Bam Adebayo provide needed answers with his triple-double? Q: Bam Adebayo had a triple-double in the most important game of the season. I think that means he showed up. – Ryan.A: And it was more about the timing than the numbers. It was about stepping up at the moments of truth. Bam Adebayo’s versatility in the end mitigated the Bucks’ size advantage that had been the story of the series. At times Wednesday, it was apparent that Bam Adebayo’s hamstring was not right. And the foul trouble did not help, either. But when Jimmy Butler needed a friend, Bam was there. And for all the social-media blabber about Jimmy’s supposed reluctance to pass to Jimmy, Bam’s dimes down the stretch allowed Jimmy and the Heat to cash in. So now Bam gets to rest his hamstring before the comparisons begin to Mitchell Robinson. For the 18th time in 25 years, the No. 1 player drafted was a quarterbac...
